The Change Start With 1

Be That One

Look within. Stand for what is right. Live in a way that gives someone else a reason to believe change is possible.

Text 06-2.mp4

One person can start something bigger.

Be That 1 is the beginning of a larger change. It starts when one person chooses to live with honesty, courage, self-love, and responsibility.

1Black carries that message forward by inviting people to see themselves as part of the change they want for their families, their communities, and their people.

When one person chooses to live differently, others can begin to see what is possible. That is how one becomes more than one.

It starts with one. It grows through many.

What does it mean to Be That One?

It begins with the way we choose to live.

To Be That One is to look honestly at yourself, believe in your own worth, care for your people, and stand for what is right, even when it would be easier to remain silent.

It means listening as much as speaking. Choosing purpose over recognition. Believing in others, even when they may struggle to believe in themselves.

These are not rules to follow or a standard of perfection.

They are questions we can carry with us:

Who am I becoming? What does my life show the people around me?
Am I willing to become part of the change I want to see?

The man behind the message

Booker Chambers is a Richmond-born communicator, Navy veteran, mentor, and community advocate whose life has been shaped by service, storytelling, and a lifelong search for truth.

From growing up in Church Hill and Gilpin Court to working in journalism, public affairs, and community leadership, Booker has spent decades thinking about what it takes for people to reconnect with themselves, believe in one another, and move their communities forward.

That journey led to Be That 1, a message rooted in honesty, self-love, courage, responsibility, and the belief that change begins when one person chooses to live differently.

Through 1Black, Booker now shares that message with a new generation.

Change starts with one. Be That 1.

It Started With a Question.

Many of us can see what needs to change.

We see it in our families, our schools, our communities, and in the ways people sometimes lose connection with themselves and one another. We may want something better, but it is not always clear where to begin or what one person can really do.

Booker Chambers spent much of his life thinking about those same questions. Through decades of study, conversation, community work, and personal reflection, he searched for a deeper understanding of truth, identity, unity, and responsibility.

One question continued to return:

What are you going to do about it?

Be That 1 grew from Booker’s realization that meaningful change does not always begin with having influence, power, or all the answers. It can begin with one person choosing to look honestly at themselves, recognize their value, believe in their people, and become more intentional about how they live.

Be That One invites you to consider what you already carry, what you may be ready to change, and how your choices can affect the people around you. It gives you a place to begin, without asking you to be perfect or to follow someone else’s path.

Because when one person begins to live with greater honesty, courage, love, and responsibility, someone else may see what is possible.

And that is how change begins to grow.

What if change starts with you?

Be That One begins with a simple idea: the change we want to see in our families and communities cannot always begin somewhere else. Sometimes, it begins with one person willing to look within, live with honesty, stand for what is right, and become an example others can see.

The Be That 1 Newsletter continues that message through weekly reflections from Booker Chambers on self-love, courage, responsibility, community, and the choices that shape who we become.

This is not a set of instructions or a single way of thinking. It is an invitation to reflect, ask questions, and consider what part of change may begin with you.
